IMPORTANT NOTICE
The route of The Smugglers’ Way south of Brown Gelly has been re-routed.
One of the landowners, whose land does not come under the provisions of the Countryside and Rights of Way Act, has made it
clear that he does not want walkers to pass through. He keeps cattle, including bulls, on his land and he cites the risk of
injury to walkers and subsequent litigation as his reasons.
There is a very
acceptable alternative, entirely on Rights of Way, which adds 0.3 miles (0.5 km) to the overall journey. Although there is
a slight increase in the amount of road walking the new route takes advantage of the attractive Two Valleys Walk.
Scroll down this page to see a map showing the new route. You may print it, or alternatively send
me a stamped, self-addressed envelope and I will pop a sketch map and a revised route description in the post.
Accommodation details have been updated to indicate the amended distances to Little Keasts B & B and Redgate
Smithy.
The Smugglers’ Way route guide will be revised and reprinted
later this year, and will include the amended route.
